Hey should we go private?

We are thinking of going private but I don't have everyone's email address to send them our link, I also don't know if it is worth it. Eric doesn't feel it is such a big deal. What is your opinion?

i personally don't think it's that big of a deal either... however, if you are really worried and you don't want to go private, you can take your last name off your blog and not put your actual location (just say you're live in california instead of the city) and then ask anyone who's linked to your blog to remove your last name from their link list. i think that's as good as being private. :)

but if you really are worried, just do it.

the only reason i don't like it when people make their blogs private, is because i can't add their feeds to my google reader and then i have to remember to read their blogs on my own... which i never remember. :)

i too agree that it is not that big of a deal. besides all the reasons whitney said, i love to blog surf, and i have reconnected with so many friends by randomly coming across their blogs through other's blogs. if they were private, then i wouldn't be able to do that. and really, that is one of the reasons i blog, to keep in touch with friends, and for my own records.

but ultimately, you have to do what makes you feel comfortable, and if that is going private, then that's great. just don't forget to add me. my email in morganpryde@yahoo.com.

Hey Sierra! I think I agree with Whitney and Morgan. I love blog surfing and love to connect with other people so it always makes me a little sad when people go private. But I also think that you have to do what's right for you and your family too. If you decide to, we're patnikwatson@hotmail.com. Hope you're doing great!

Hey Sierra,
I have been wondering the same thing too. Danny kind of wants me to go private but I love looking and finding friends just like everyone else has said. If you do my email address is: juleedorr@gmail.com
Hope you are doing great!!!

Nate and I have debated about going private, also. But mostly because of his job. You never know what kind of psychos are out there that might have a grudge against him. So I'm just careful about not talking about what he does, and I don't have our last name anywhere on our blog (and have asked others not to have a link with our last name on their blogs). I do often wonder what sort of people are reading my blog, but I assume that they're mostly other stay at home moms like me that see a link to my blog on a friend's blog. If you're worried about who is looking at yours, add a stat counter on here. Go to statcounter.com and it'll keep a log of the location of everyone that views your blog. It might make you want to go private even more, but either way, it's really interesting to see. But I agree with all your friends opinions about it. I use google reader to check friends blogs, so the ones that are private, I don't look at as often. Either way, I would support you in your decision and still check out your blog! :-)

I too have had the same question lately, only because a friend had some serious problems with a stranger posting inaappropriate comments on her family blog site and visiting the site repeatedly. Kinda scary. But I think if you are really careful about not mentioning names and locations on your blog site it should keep it safe enough. I'm kind of hesitant to go private just because of the connections I have made because of it. However, I know as moms our first priority should be to protect our kids and our family and I think however you feel you do that best is your answer. By the way we need to get together again soon. Give me a call or I'll call you.

I recently added a ticker to my blog. It is on the bottom right. It tells me who visits my blog. It also shows where they go after they have visited. Maybe try that first and if there are unfamiliar people/ cities you can't trace, then you could go private. It's worth a try. Check it out on my blog.
